Join us as our community reads "Isola" and talks with author Allegra Goodman for our 6th annual Greece Reads event.
A riveting portrait inspired by the real life of a sixteenth-century heroine, and a gorgeous celebration of the power of the natural world, Isola is the timeless story of a woman realizing her true strength.
Raised in Honolulu, Allegra Goodman studied English and philosophy at Harvard and received a PhD in English literature from Stanford. She is the recipient of a Whiting Writer’s Award, the Salon Award for Fiction, and fellowships from MacDowell and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced study. She lives with her family in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her books have been chosen for both Reece Witherspoon's and Jenna Bush Hagar's celebrity book clubs.
Greece Reads is sponsored by the Town of Greece. Lift Bridge Book Shop will be selling the books at the event. Allegra will be signing books after the event.
We are accepting donations for the "Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf". The Food Shelf's purpose is to acquire, warehouse, and distribute donated and purchased food to people in need living in Greece and Charlotte. Checks may be made payable to "Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf". Here are other items you can donate:
nonperishable food items: chunky-style soups (all flavors), crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, canned fruit, canned pasta sauce, flavored noodle and rice mixes, cereal, flour, sugar, baking mixes, salad dressings, and condiments.
