For Adults

Mattiwilda Dobbs was a pioneering African American soprano in the world of classical music. She was the first African American woman to perform at the renowned La Scala Opera House in Milan and the first to sing a lead romantic role at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

Join Lindsey Baker, Black Studies Librarian at the University of Rochester, for an engaging presentation on Dobbs’s extraordinary life and career. Baker will explore how Dobbs navigated the international opera stage as a coloratura soprano and paved the way for future generations of artists.
