Event Details
Researching your family history can be an extremely rewarding (and daunting) project. Don’t worry, we are here to help you get started with the basics in this easy-to-understand program! Attendees will also receive a FREE Genealogy Organizer Journal to help keep track of all your hard work!
Genealogy research helps us develop our Literacy Skills, which are part of Information Literacy. We use these critical thinking skills to analyze our sources and to create a thoroughly researched summary about what we learned through that process. It's also a great way to build our storytelling and communication skills while also preserving the past for future generations.
About the presenter: Mindy Wallington spent about 10 years in Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation at the University of Rochester, where she assisted dozens of scholarly researchers with accessing archival materials. She oversaw genealogy inquiries which drew on resources in local history collections such as Rochester-area orphanages. Before that, Mindy grew up next door to her grandparents on their 100+ year old family farm in the Rochester area and loved listening to stories about her family's lives in the early 1900s.
